2006 Voice Symposium

The Canadian Voice Care Foundation presented the 5th International Voice Symposium: Care of the Professional and Occupational Voice, August 9-13, 2006 at the Banff Centre in Banff, AB.

The Symposium was a great success, and an outstanding, one-of-a-kind learning opportunity for all who attended. The group of approximately 150 delegates was made up of physicians, speech language pathologists, voice teachers, singers and actors. The group of thirty international faculty presenters from Canada, the United States, the U.K., France, Germany and Belgium was comprised of practitioners and researchers from a diverse array of fields, including medicine, alternative medicine, acting, singing, teaching, and speech language pathology.

The event was unique in that it gave delegates the chance to have hands-on workshop experience and also to meet and network directly with faculty presenters. Workshops gave attendees training and practice in the Accent Method, Manual Therapy for voice disorders, and Speech Level Singing. Featured masterclasses gave singers and actors the opportunity to work with well-known voice instructors Seth Riggs, Lisa Popeil, Lorna MacDonald and Erkki Bianco.

As in previous years, The Banff Centre was an excellent venue, providing an attractive, comfortable, informal learning and networking environment against the spectacular backdrop of the Rockies. Delegates and faculty were able to have meals and socialize together to discuss mutual interests and make valuable contacts that will last for many years to come.
